Hike the rim of the Lake
judged by Aldous Huxley as "the most beautiful in the
world." Lake Atitlan has a surface area of 81 square miles
and is the deepest lake in Central America. It is located at
4,500 feet in the Central Highland of Guatemala in a basin whose
inhabitants are mostly Mayan who retain their traditional customs and
traditions. There are 12 lakeside communities linked by roads,
trails and a boat transportation network. All of these elements
are incorporated in the tour. The Lake provides for other
water-oriented activities including swimming and SCUBA diving.
The tour includes volcano climbing and visits to the Spanish colonial
city of Antigua and the outdoor indigenous marketplace of
Chichicastenango. |
